HARMEN DE HOOP is a visual artist who makes anonymous and illegal interventions in public space. He works on the notion of ‘place’ in the contemporary city, the behaviour of individuals or groups, and the conflicts of interests in public space. With his interventions he breaches the systems and brings forward another, often humane perspective. With this he tries to let people look at themselves in a different way, often with a sense of humor.
Documentation of his interventions has been exhibited at the São Paulo Architecture Biennale (São Paulo), CCA (San Francisco), Graham Foundation (Chicago), Canadian Centre for Architecture (Montreal), iGaleria Vaclava Spaly (Prague), ARCO (Madrid), NUART (Stavanger), NIMK (Amsterdam), STROOM (Den Haag), Museum Het Valkhof (Nijmegen), Museum Jan Cunen (Oss).
His work is published in international art magazines and books, e.g. in KUNSTFORUM INTERNATIONAL (D), ART das kunstmagazine (D), ART PRESS (F), FOCUS (I), Metropolis M (NL), STREET ART (Verlag Ullmann), URBAN INTERVENTIONS (Gestalten Verlag), ART & AGENDA (Gestalten Verlag).
He gives lectures on the relation between art, sociology, urban planning and architecture.
BIANCOSHOCK for a very long time he didn’t consider himself as an artist, until, one day he decided to understand the purpose and the nature of his work.
Soon becomes clear that there is no existing "category" that can fit his urban inclination, typical of the Urban Art, and his expressive process which is very close to the classic activist and performative art; this is the reason why he decides to give birth to EPHEMERALISM.
Ephemeralism has the purpose of producing works of art that have to exist briefly in space but limitlessly in time through the photography, the video and the media.
He has realized more that 1.000 arworks in the streets of Italy, Albania, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, France, Germany, England, Estonia, Hungary, Lithuania, Malesia, Malta, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, Slovak, Slovenia and Spain.
He has participated in some of the most important Urban Art festival, he presented "Ephemeralism" project in various universities (including Milan, Foggia, Ljubljana, Bratislava and Zagreb) and at TEDx Oporto 2014.
